Mr. Thuy has much experience in the areas of intellectual property, corporate, investment management, banking and finance matters, advising and acting for clients from SME’s, to large multi-national companies. He exhibits a strong sense of business knowledge that complements his industry-leading experience. He acts for a broad range of corporate, banking and financial services clients with a focus in Vietnam.

Mr. Thuy joined BUD & PRAIRIER very soon where he subsequently became the head of corporate, investment management, banking and financial division. He is highly regarded for finding pragmatic and cost-effective ways to deal with even the most complex cases. Mr. Thuy also focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, including the drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam and foreign patent offices. He advises clients on patent portfolio management strategies and provides evaluations and opinions on patentability, freedom-to-operate, clearance and transactional due diligence.

He has helped clients with various pieces of work:

• Advised on broad range of more specific activities such as investing, insurance, general banking, home and business loans and a range of financial products;
• Structured, negotiated and restructured all forms of banking and credit-structured finance, project finance, asset-backed finance and securitization;
• Acted for local and overseas insurance companies or investors in insurance enterprises and offered advice ranging from insurance regulation and compliance, including passporting of services and intermediation, shareholding acquisition or disposal and sale of subsidiaries while at the same time utilising his corporate, M&A and competition expertise;
• Managed all conflicts relating to the validity and execution of banking and financial operations;
• Offered a full range of services with respect not only to registration and renewal of trademarks, but also post registration activities, such as inspection of detained goods, negotiations with an importer, drafting and signing an agreement on destruction of counterfeits, filing a lawsuit if necessary, participation in destruction process of counterfeits;
• Provided strategic advice and services on intellectual property rights from clearance search, registrability, application requirements and prosecution of applications through to registration/grant, as well as recordation of transfer and licensing of IPRs.
