Celebration for World Intellectual Property Day 2025
HCM City, Vietnam – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) has signed Decision No. 887/QD-BVHTTDL on promulgating the plan to organize a series of propaganda activities for World Intellectual Property Day 2025. The objective of the activity is to propagate and introduce mechanisms and policies as well as raise awareness and sense of compliance with the law on copyright and related rights of local state management agencies, the business community and organizations and individuals operating in the music field. In addition, World Intellectual Property Day 2025 creates opportunities for exchange, connection, cooperation and sharing between state management agencies, experts, scientists, business communities and organizations and individuals operating in the music field on professional knowledge and practical experience, grasping new information, updating new trends, thereby researching and proposing new mechanisms and policies to promote the development of cultural industries.
With the theme “Intellectual Property and Music: Feeling the Beat of Intellectual Property”, World Intellectual Property Day 2025 is expected to take place for two days from April 20 to April 21 in Ho Chi Minh City. One of the two key events in the series of events taking place on April 20 is a program to introduce and exchange about copyright in the music field. The program aims to honor musical creativity as well as spread the message that Ho Chi Minh City is a city of artistic creativity. In addition, there will also be a program on mechanisms and policies to promote the development of cultural industries in the music sector with the theme “Dialogue on mechanisms and policies to promote the development of cultural industries in the music sector”. This dialogue program is a forum for dialogue, grasping the situation and reality of organizing music events in Vietnam and abroad; at the same time, proposing development directions; difficulties and obstacles in mechanisms, policies, administrative procedures, in the process of organizations and individuals implementing music events.
What is World Intellectual Property Day?
World Intellectual Property Day was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000. Its goal is to educate the public about the importance of protecting patents, trademarks, copyrights, and designs — the legal tools that fuel innovation and creativity across every industry. World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated every year on 26 April to raise awareness about the role that intellectual property (IP) plays in encouraging innovation and creativity.
Why IP Rights Matter
In today’s knowledge-driven economy, IP rights are more crucial than ever. They help:
+ Incentivize innovation by protecting new inventions and creations;
+ Support economic growth by enabling creators and businesses to profit from their ideas;
+ Promote creativity and culture by ensuring artists and authors are recognized and rewarded.
In 2025, the theme continues to spotlight the vital contribution of IP rights to individuals, startups, businesses, and economies around the world. World Intellectual Property Day is not just a date on the calendar but also a powerful reminder that every innovation, design, song, and story starts with an idea worth protecting.
